I can apply Todorov’s theory to this music video because the narrative starts with an equilibrium of the couple having troubles and him showing no affection towards his wife. We then see the husband drive off and not wave to his wife, here is when the song starts and then show visuals of the wife taking off her wedding ring, crying etc., because as the lyrics say she knows she’s ‘not the only one’. Then when the chorus starts, the singer of the song, Sam Smith disrupts the equilibrium with a performance at 1:51 singing the line ‘you know I’m crazy’. The equilibrium is then restored but is disrupted again when the chorus comes in again at 2:38 and the visuals are getting more deep and meaningful as the music intensity starts to build, this suggests that the wife is starting to calm down from the situation and take revenge. At 4:20 the equilibrium is restored as the husband comes back home to his wife and she hugs him and welcomes him into the house as if nothing ever happened but this time we see him showing love and affection to her and she just smiles in a sarcastic way suggesting she is planning revenge.
