Digipaks
What is a digipak?
A
'Digipak' is a modern, stylish alternative to the standard CD Jewel Case. CD
Digipaks are a custom printed card packaging that can hold one or more CDs
which are held in place with plastic trays (CD flexi trays) which are glued
into the digipak. They are significantly important in the marketing and
promotion of the artists'/band's album as it attracts a certain audience,
through representing their specific genre through visual features.
This digipak’s packaging has a main theme colour of red, as
we can see from this image, which connotes pain and anger with this specific
music genre, rock, this also communicates the genre to its audience immediately
by seeing the colour red along with the font of the title. This digipak
includes a CD, front cover showing an image of the band, their name and the
title of the album, a back page which usually gives credits to those who helped
to make the CD be created and the two inside pages which include photographs
from recent tours and a message from the band members saying why they wrote
this album and their journey whilst writing it.
The font the band use is too small to see but I can assume
from the genre it’s going to be something like ‘FRANKLIN
GOTHIC HEAVY’. The choice of images used on this digipak help to attract the
audience by letting them know their image and to be a role model to fans. They use
images to communicate the genre, so wear outfits of the colours black and
white, wear funky hats and the artists have long crazy hair. They also use
images to show to its audience what their work consists of and promoting their
tours by using images from past shows.
