Equilibrium – 0:00 – 1:24 : Narrative of baby being born and
then growing up as a young straight boy, playing with boys, going on dates with
girls, playing American football, doing all of these things would
stereotypically present him as a straight boy, but in the lyrics the singer is
singing about knowing he was gay no matter what activities he played with boys
or how much his parents wanted him to like girls.
The narrative is then disrupted with famous and non-famous
historic flashbacks of religion and American events.
This song doesn’t follow Goodwins theory of narrative as the
singer of the song is not the main character in the song.
